Teaching acting is an interesting thing. I believe good teachers realize that for the most part teaching is not much more than providing an environment for students to develop trust in themselves more and more which develops confidence. Weather it's a private, One on One coaching situation, or in a classroom, each actors journey is their own.
A teachers focus needs to be to help guide a student to be back in touch with who they truly are.
I believe developing confidence is the first step to becoming a great actor/aritst. When you have confidence you will follow your impulses and FIND things. Exploration is a big key in being able to FIND things.
Developing intelligence and wisdom are the next steps which lead to having some assemblance of an approach to your work. But an actor must first develop condidence to start to understand or get back in touch with their essence as a human being. Once you find that essence and are back in touch with it you then will be able to use your intelligence and wisdom to create full, rich and unique characters.
Being able to express yourself fully and honestly within the confines of an imaginery situation is the actors job and struggle.
I've worked wth many actors over the past 6 years as a teacher, coach and director and am very confidenent I can help anyone at any stage or level of development to a deeper, richer, and fuller level which will allow their experience as an actor/aritst be more fullfilling.
If you are interested in talking to me about where you are and where you want to be and feel I may be able to help don't hesitate to contact me so we can set up a time to meet.
Sincerely,
Michael Knowles
